This tour leads participants into Some of Spain’s finest birding destination, combined with cultural wonders as Alhambra de Granada, and Museum del Prado in Madrid.
Tour last for about 11- 12 days, travelling along different regions of Spain: Castilla La Mancha, Andalucía, Extremadura and Sierra De Gredos. stops overnight should be two days in la Mancha, 1 night in Granada to experience a “tapas” night, 3 nights at el Rocio, a little Village within Doñana National park, 2 nights at the Hospedería hotel in Monfragüe, followed by 1 night in sierra de Gredos to finally end up in Madrid with a couple of days.

This tour implies a considerable walking time while visiting parks, some steeps sierras and exploring some cultural wonders, normally it is a slow peace walking with stops along the way, but please be sure of a minimum level of fitness.

DAYS OF LA MANCHA AND TABLAS DE DAIMIEL NATIONAL PARK
Two days through the country’s heartland will take us first to the bird-rich lagunas of La Mancha region, home of Don Quixote, the 17th-century creation of writer Miguel de Cervantes. Morning walk to the wetlands (lagunas) rich in bird life. Opportunity to see restored windmills featured in Don Quixote tale.
The second part we visit Tablas de Daimiel national Park, an extensive wetland strategically situated on the migration routes of many bird species, formed because of the overflowing in the confluence of the Guadiana and Cigüela rivers, favored by the sloping terrain. The highest ecological value is the presence of birds that come to spend the winter and nest here.
Later on an opportunity to walk to “Motilla Del Azuer” an archeological site from year 2.200 to 1.300 B.C.
THE DAY OF SIERRA DE ANDUJAR & GRANADA
Morning walking on the Sierra de Andujar Park, home to a natural wilderness. High probability of sighting Iberian Lynx, one of the rarest wild cats in the world , amid its pastures land, steep mountains, forest and riverbank.
Travel to the historic city of Granada that has an unmistakable Moorish essence, due to the fact that it was the last city to be reconquered by the Catholic Monarchs in 1492. The gastronomy, craftwork and urban planning are influenced by its glorious past.
Tour of the Alhambra Palace, this beautiful complex is the world’s most spectacular Arab citadel and the symbol of Granada.
Evening at leisure, opportunity for a tapas night.
DAYS OF DOÑANA NATIONAL PARK
after travelling from Granada we base three nights at little village of el Rocio, to discover Doñana National Park, an area refuge for numerous migratory birds, and one of the largest and most important wetlands in Europe.
First day a tour with Unimog vehicle, to explore the beach dune, near the mouth of the Guadalquivir River and other inaccessible habitats within the park. Continue inland to explore the “Coto”, stable sandy soils supporting cork oaks and umbrella pines, and home to the greatest remaining concentration of Spanish Imperial Eagles. Opportunity to walk back from the tour stop end.
On our second day travel to Dehesa de abajo, a very well preserved nature reserve, with a high conservation level, and new area of lynx expansion. Walking tour around the wetland of the reserve, with stops at both view points. A typical lunch to finish the day.
DAYS OF MONFRAGUE NATIONAL PARK
Having left behind Andalucía, we now travel to Extremadura, spending two days to explore Monfrague National Park, a great treasure of biodiversity and one of the most remarkable area for Nature in Europe, stretching along the river Tagus is a refuge for representative species of the Mediterranean wildlife.
The First day a nice walk up to Castle, ( of Arabic origin) which offers an spectacular view of the National Park, and a main point to watch raptors flying , later on a picnic lunch Villa real de San carlos.
The second day a walk by la Tajadilla route to finish at the Fuente de los tres caños, a breaking area situated over the bank of the river Tietar and facing a craggy cliff area of nesting for bird of prey. Late in the afternoon, opportunity to have a walk around Trujillo.
THE DAY OF SIERRA DE GREDOS
We travel by bus to sierra de Gredos, a succession of lakes glacial cirques, gorges and crags created by erosion during the various ice ages because of rugged relief and slopes facing various directions, the Gredos mountain range can be considered an authentic paradise for flora.
Morning walk in the Gredos Nature Reserve, through spectacular scenery in the shadow of Pico Almanzor, we find a large number of endemic botanical species.
As an end of this tour we have an optional extension to Stay in Madrid a couple of cultural days for visit to city Museums Del Prado, Reina Sofia, and Tyssen.
Return home and end of the tour.
